Listen to one of our little library lovers …

We’ve been busy finding out just what it is that Dickens LMC patrons like about the library … Listen to this little darling!

Post a sticky on our wall!

February is Library Lovers’ Month!!

February is also LIBRARY LOVER’S MONTH!!!!!!!
Because our 09-10 theme is to CELEBRATE reading–and because there is MUCH to celebrate–I’m putting together a video montage of all the things kids and teachers love about the Dickens LMC. (Our library program was recently selected as a “case study for what’s going right in school libraries” by a national school library advocacy group, and they are requesting video commentary from teachers about our library program, as well as written comments from students.)
So here is where you and your kids come in …
TEACHERS: Please jot down some things you like about the Dickens LMC program and either put it in my mailbox or send via email. If you would be willing to go on camera with your comments, please write that down, too and I’ll come hunt you down.  :-)
STUDENTS: As a potential writing activity in your classroom, please have students brainstorm what they like about the Dickens LMC. Please encourage them to use their Thinking Maps, the formal writing process, and anything else you can to get them thinking more than just “it’s fun” or “it’s cool.” Posters advertising the Dickens LMC’s services to other classes/students in the school or other visual displays would be great, too!
I realize not everyone will be able to fit any of this in to already-tight schedules … but if you can, it is VERY MUCH appreciated! The Dickens LMC is making a name for itself thanks to you!

A special congratulations is in order for Ms. Byers and her class!! During the first 100 days of school, Ms. Byers read her kids a minimum of 93 books!!! They will get to participate in the 100th day of school celebration in the Dickens LMC today!
Not to be forgotten, though, is Ms. Kip and her class, as well. They experienced a minimum of 88 read alouds during that same period of time!!!
Close behind, reading 81 books, is Ms. Castaneda and her class, then Ms. Versluys and her class (reading a total of 77 books aloud).
Finally, rounding out the top 5, is Ms. Steele and her class with 64 books!
100 Books in 100 Days Quick Stats
18 teachers participated
619 total book slips were turned in (the reality is that many more were probably read, but time didn’t provide for slips to be filled out and turned in)
THIS IS TREMENDOUS!! Thank you so much to those of you who read aloud to your kids every day … This is one of the most important things we can do for our kids!
